Year 7 Transition to High School

Where Every Student’s Journey Begins with Confidence

Starting High school is a significant milestone for both students and parents. At Salamah College, we understand that this transition comes with excitement, new opportunities, and challenges. Our Year 7 Transition Program is designed to ease the shift from primary to secondary school, ensuring that students feel supported, prepared, and welcomed into their new learning environment.

With structured guidance, academic support, and a strong focus on student wellbeing, we provide an environment where students can flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.

A Supportive Start to High School

Transitioning to high school brings many changes, including:
A new school environment with different classrooms, teachers, and subjects.
Higher academic expectations with an increased focus on responsibility and independence.
New friendships as students meet peers from different backgrounds.

At Salamah College, we ensure that every Year 7 student feels safe, included, and ready to embrace the challenges of high school.

Academic & Wellbeing Support for a Smooth Transition

We recognise that adjusting to High School learning expectations can be overwhelming. To assist students, we offer:

Tutoring & Learning Support

  • One-on-one tutoring for students needing extra help.
  • Specialised intensive learning support with guidance from teachers and alumni mentors.

Healthy Habits for Success

  • Sleep is essential! Students aged 5-12 need 10-11 hours of sleep per night to stay focused.
  • Balanced nutrition matters – A healthy breakfast improves concentration, problem-solving skills, and long-term academic performance.

Study & Organisation Tips

  • Creating a distraction-free workspace – Using a desk instead of a bed improves focus.
  • Effective storage & filing systems – Colour-coded folders and organised digital files prevent missing assignments.
  • Planners & Diaries – A weekly or monthly planner helps students manage due dates and plan ahead of time.
  • Avoiding distractions – Managing social media, phones, and TV time prevents procrastination.

By developing strong study habits early, students set themselves up for success in their senior years.

Peer Mentoring – Learning from Senior Students

Our Personal Learning Goals Peer Mentoring Program pairs senior students with Year 7 students to help them:
Set SMART learning goals for each subject.
Manage time effectively and build academic confidence.
Reflect on progress and adjust study strategies at the end of each term.

Through this mentorship program, younger students receive valuable guidance from senior students who have successfully navigated high school.

Looking Ahead – A Pathway to Success

From Year 7, students at Salamah College are encouraged to think about their future academic and career goals.

Year 10 Subject Selection & Career Planning

  • Year 10 students and parents attend subject selection sessions to understand HSC pathways, study expectations, and career options.
  • Students participate in work experience programs, mock interviews, and career guidance workshops.

Elevate Education Seminars

  • University students mentor Year 10 & 11 students, teaching skills in motivation, time management, and exam preparation.
  • Students gain insights into university life and strategies for academic success.

Year 12 Study & Leadership Development

  • Students learn self-management skills to prepare for the HSC and beyond.
  • Encouragement from past graduates ensures students develop effective study habits and leadership qualities.

A Strong Foundation for the Future

At Salamah College, we believe that Year 7 is the start of an exciting journey—one where students grow academically, personally, and spiritually. With structured support, mentoring, and a commitment to student success, we ensure that every student feels confident, capable, and ready to thrive in High School.
