K-6 PDHPE

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) develops the knowledge, skills and attitudes students need to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives. Students learn about the importance of good food and regular exercise. They learn how bodies grow and change over time. They learn skills to play individual and team sports, and the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Values Education

At Salamah College, Values Educations is taught through Health with a direct link to School Restorative Behaviour Management (RBM) Guidelines. Students acquire and master important social skills as they complete the stage appropriate Restorative Behaviour Management Social Skills handbook. The entire school focuses on one desired behaviour or social skill each week. Student success with these social skills is awarded on a weekly basis with Rise and Shine tokens.

PDHPE

At Salamah College we believe that we have a responsibility to build and nurture an active, responsible and educated community. Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) focuses on encouraging students to think critically, solve problems and make informed decisions related to health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity. We aim to empower students with the essential knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes to promote wellbeing and lead a safe, active and healthy life.

PDHPE is organised into the elements of Personal Development and Health, PDH, and Physical Education, PE. These two elements connect to four focus areas:

Movement skill and physical activity

Respect for relationships and safety

Identity, health and wellbeing

Self-management and interpersonal skills

Our PDHPE lessons will equip students with:

  • knowledge and skills to positively influence their own and others’ safety
  • health and wellbeing
  • participate in lifelong physical activity
  • critically respond to changing health contexts
  • build connection
  • identity resilience and respectful relationships
  • take positive action in consent
  • safety and health in online and offline environments
  • enhance health literacy to evaluate health information
  • promote and advocate for the health and wellbeing of themselves and others

The Physical Education (PE) component is taught by an external provider ‘Got Games’ utilising specialty PE teachers, focusing on interpersonal development through organised interactive experiences and collaboration.
